The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) rewarded Cummins Turbo Technologies today for its commitment to engineering talent. IMechE President, Keith Millard, presented Cummins Turbo Technologies with the Professional Excellence Award during his visit to the Yorkshire Region. This prestigious award has been set up to recognise businesses that make outstanding contributions to the development of engineers. Cummins Turbo Technologies in Huddersfield is the first recipient of this award from Yorkshire and the North East an area rich in engineering excellence. Only seven are awarded nationally each year.
Cummins Turbo Technologies has been recognised for its effective professional development programme which has seen around 50% of professional engineers progress to Chartered Engineer status from a broad range of roles within the Company. Cummins also has an Eng.Tech approved scheme in place where all apprentices become affiliate members of the Institution and a significant number achieve Eng.Tech status. Engineers are also encouraged to progress to Fellow status; six currently have this title.
IMechE President, Keith Millard commented; “This Award is a very significant achievement. It demonstrates that Cummins Turbo Technologies is ensuring that professional engineers are achieving the highest standards in engineering excellence. Engineers can come into Cummins knowing that the processes which are important for professional development are in place. “
Touring the recently opened world class test facilities on the St Andrew’s Road site, Millard also commented, “It is evident that everything at Cummins is of the highest standard. They really care about their customers and go to great lengths to prove out their products.”
